Are you and the girls crazy about cheese? Do you want to sample all of the local cheeses from your chosen destination? Do you enjoy sipping wine while enjoying the yellow stuff? Yes? Then this is the activity for you. With every variety under the sun and some you’ve never even heard of, this is a cheese lover's heaven and one of the slightly more cultured (pardon the pun) activities on offer. In our Amsterdam cheese tasting activity, you will get to try six cheeses and wash them down three glasses of wine! Magic.
You and your hens will be under the expert care of a cheese aficionado who will take you on a culinary adventure like no other. Remember not to eat too much before arriving as this activity will be a lunch date like no other and also offers the perfect opportunity to buy some souvenirs to bring back to the UK.
All of our cheese tours will differ slightly depending on where they are hosted, so please ensure you read the specs before arrival. Generally speaking though you and your hen party will try at least six different cheeses, guided by an expert fluent in the language of love (cheese) Fun games will be incorporated into the afternoon and you will leave armed with new knowledge.
You will find out how each cheese is created and the history behind it and similar to wine tasting, you will be encouraged to pick up the subtle and sometimes not so subtle notes and unique flavours. You will also discover the perfect wine pairing which is knowledge you can take home for your next dinner party.
Palate cleansers will be offered after each tasting to ensure you go in fresh each time to fully experience each flavour. We only have one question, can we come with you?
It might look like you're tucking into the first cheese in front of you, but there is actually a precise order to this activity. You start with the mildest, as it's the 'least offensive' to your taste buds. That's not to say you won't like the stronger ones, but you have to start with a simple base and then build-up. If you go straight into the deep end, people might be put off before they've even ventured into the differing cheeses.
You will also most likely be asked to smell the cheese before you eat it, just like with wine tasting. There will be hints of nuts, cream, spices or maybe even mushroom, depending on the cheese. Some can even smell of freshly cut grass, while the taste might be quite drastically different.
These cheeses will generally fall more into one category than another, between sweet, acidic, bitter, salty or savoury. What you prefer is completely personal, some like it quite sweet with added fruit, while others might like a spicy kick, then others prefer it creamy like a soft cheese.
