The list of activities and experiences in Edinburgh is beyond expansive, you'll be chockablock with options, so it's best to run through the activities we offer with the bride to see which she would prefer. People do tend to love visiting around the Fringe festival to enjoy some comedy, but there are some amazing comedy bars available all year round, where you can dodge the high cost of accommodation. A trip to Edinburgh castle is always a great option if you've never been to the city, while you could also walk up Arthur's seat for the views.
The Scottish capital city is built on seven hills, yes, seven. As you can imagine there’s some serious walking to do, but the beautiful surroundings and cobbled streets that inspired many a filmmaker are broken up with stairways, making the hike worthwhile. The city centre is easily walkable, but there is also a second-to-none public transport system, including buses and trams, helping to manoeuvre 4 million tourists a year around the streets.
Buses run 24 hours a day, 7-days a week, and trams run from 5am until midnight. The 24 hour bus routes make this the most popular form of transport for journeys back to the hotel. You can download the Transport for Edinburgh app to pay for a ticket, but it's just as easy tapping your contactless card once you board the bus. The tram has 23 stops and runs every 7 minutes, going all the way from the airport to Newhaven. There are two sections of the tram which cater for wheelchairs and mobility scooters, while they also have high visibility handrails.
Also, you’ll be delighted to hear Edinburgh Airport is only 20-minutes away in a taxi, and the flight is just an hour from London and generally cheaper than the train if you book in advance. Cars are not welcomed as most of the city is one-way and mostly pedestrianised, so if you are driving, be prepared to ditch your vehicle in a long-stay car park.
Providing the weather plays along, Edinburgh is easily walkable, while you can get around the Old Town in around 30 minutes. Being cobbled streets though, you do sometimes have to think of the older relatives and make sure it's achievable for them.
Edinburgh is divided into 13 unique areas, each with their own special qualities, the city is easily walkable and definitely worth exploring.
Visit Diagon Alley - ok, that might be the Harry Potter name, but we really mean Victoria Street, which is most certainly worth heading down, especially if there are some Potter fans in the group. The colourful and picturesque buildings are just amazing to look at.
Edinburgh nightlife is legendary and a huge part of the social scene is The Fringe Festival which takes place during the month of August every year. The city comes to life with visitors and a huge variety of live performances with everything from comedy and drag to theatre and dance. It is the social occasion of the year and possibly the warmest time to visit, although be aware accommodation gets booked well in advance, booking through us will help alleviate that problem!
Head to Hey Palu if you take your cocktails seriously, featured in the top 50 cocktail bars list in the UK, this modern Italian bar will quench your thirst in style. If it's Margaritas you crave (who doesn’t) then head to Chancho, a Mexican bar that offers tequila flights and more. Boujee with a capital B is Montrose Terrace, this bar is off the beaten track and offers delightful wines and food. All Bar One is a recognisable chain also present in Edinburgh, expect bottomless brunches and decent grub! If it’s live music you seek then go to George IV this historical bar will provide a true taste of Scottish hospitality, while they also have a famously large selection of great tasting scotch whisky. With 385 pubs to choose from, we are sure you’ll find some gems of your own.
Edinburgh isn’t short of a dancefloor or two and the scene is certainly eclectic, with all music tastes catered for. Head to La Belle Angele if it’s 90's parties and emerging bands you crave. The Liquid Room offers Indie and Retro nights and at the other end of the spectrum, House and Techno! C C Blooms is Edinburgh's longest standing LGBTQ+ bar, playing cheesy pop and hosting local drag kings and queens. The Voodoo Rooms offers something a little different, this stunning venue offers cabaret shows, burlesque classes as well as club nights. Cheesy night out? Then it has to be Garibaldi’s. This down to earth venue has a moving stipper pole (say no more!) and apparently there’s a very strong drink known as a ‘Gari special’ - be warned!
The city is also diverse in terms of the range of cuisines on offer here, you can book a restaurant package through us, such as at TGI Fridays, Las Iguanas, Slug & Lettuce or Bierkeller, which saves the hassle of finding somewhere who is happy to accept large groups of celebrating ladies! We partner with some excellent providers and can guarantee the food and ambience will be spot on. You can select the food you desire and then just turn up on the day, in our opinion this is the perfect way to start your hen while you are all still finding your bearings. This also saves the headache of reserving a table for a big group, which can be really complicated, while some restaurants turn away hen groups, therefore we have pre-arranged deals with a number of venues.
The obvious answer is yes, however visit during the ‘hottest’ months July and August and the temperature is pretty decent. Always bring an umbrella though, as comic Billy Connelly once said, ‘There’s no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothing’.
100%, this beautiful city is a must visit, with so much to do here in truly unique surroundings. Many hen and stag parties visit throughout the year and the feedback is amazing! With a wide range of restaurants, bars and clubs all within a short distance, not to mention unique and fun activities that don't involve leaving the city centre, you can do everything you want without too mush stress or transfers. Go for it!
This is one of the busiest (and fun) times to visit. During the month-long event people visit from all over the world. If you book in advance you will get accommodation, we offer some amazing hen friendly places to stay that are also incredible value for money. But be warned, the prices for accommodation over these dates does go through the roof.
As with any high demand capital city, the prices are reflective of demand. Accommodation can be on the pricey side, but if you book through us you will be very pleasantly surprised at the great value for money we offer. We do realistically recommend avoiding 1-25th August simply due to the costs going through the roof with the Fringe Festival, unless everyone's budget can stretch to that.
The city is steeped in (sometimes gory) history and there are many fascinating ghost walks and tours available, so you can release your inner goth girl spirit and get involved! Fancy visiting some underground vaults? Or how about a haunted graveyard?
Edinburgh Castle is built on an extinct volcano, which was home to many kings and queens for centuries (the castle, not the volcano). The walk is breathtaking with unrivalled city views and would definitely rid any hangovers.
The city has 112 parks and more trees per head than any other city in the UK, which makes Autumn truly magnificent.
