The Alcotraz cocktail prison experience is the ultimate immersive activity that kicked off a nation's obsession with immersive bars. Located in a number of cities across the UK, you will be directed to your cell and then hand over your booze to a naughty prison guard who will take it to the back to be made up into your cocktails. Just watch out for the warden, as you get into character, get dressed up into your prison clothing and laugh at the ongoing show taking place all around you.
Our team have gone along personally to test this out and it's an absolute favourite of the HenPartyDeals team, a great show put on by amazing actors, while you enjoy your cheeky tipple as it all takes place all around you. Expect plenty of 'audience participation'.
So the cells can hold around 6 people maximum, therefore if you're in a big group, you may be split into a few cells, but they'll be right alongside each other and you can easily talk through the bars. Depending on which venue you go to, there are around 8 cells, so there will be a few other groups potentially on the night having the same experience as you.
Oh it's not scary at all, it's absolutely hilarious, it's more of a comedy taking place all around you as you watch the guards really adopt their role and walk around from cell to cell questioning you all and then breaking into a set dialogue with each other. It's all very lighthearted and fun, the guards aren't meant to be intimidating at all, but huge credit to them for remaining in character through it all.
While the show is all included, you will want to smuggle in your spirit of choice, for them to create your cocktails with. Which one you pick is up to you, as they can work wonders with whatever you bring, within reason, but the most popular options are vodka, gin, rum or whiskey.
Other than that, you just need to bring a positive attitude and excitement.
Well, when you arrive you will be given your orange jumpsuits to put on. These can be worn over your own clothes, so no need to change out or worry about what you're wearing. You may want to hang up your jacket on arrival, so you're not overheating, while the pictures of the whole hen group look amazing with everyone in the orange jumpsuits. It's not just about a photo in the cell, the guard will also take you over to a crime wall where you will get some mugshots.
Considering you will be wearing a jumpsuit over your clothes, you might want to go light with what you wear so you're not too warm.
Expect the show to last around 1 hour and 45 minutes, while there are different slots that run through the day, normally being around 12 midday, 14:15, 16:40, 19:05 and the latest being 21:30.
When it comes to picking the right time, it really does depend on what else you're booking for the day on your hen do. For example, if you were to pick the 9:30pm, it then wouldn't end until 11:15pm, which would be ideal if you just wanted to head on to a nightclub next (which we can arrange queue jump and entry for). On the other hand, if you'd rather do this through the day so you can then head on for some dinner, then a 2:15pm booking might make more sense.
Our party planners are available to discuss this all with you and work out the best times based on what else you'd like to book.
No, it's not available on Monday's and Tuesday's, while there are normally only one (sometimes two) time slots available for every other day than Saturday. As you can imagine, Saturday is the peak day and most popular option when booking this activity.
Unfortunately, they don't have any food packages or offerings here. We can help arrange for a restaurant reservation for straight before or after when booking at a nearby location.
