The vibe is boujee, the dress code is glam and you all have permission to let your hair down in this sun soaked city. There is something for everyone, from high glamour champagne breakfasts to raucous bottomless brunches. You can party on the sun soaked deck of a catamaran or sip cocktails next to a pool. For the more energetic, there’s themed dance classes, such as Beyoncé inspired or Salsa style, the choice is down to you.
Getting around
One of the most affordable ways of getting around Marbella is the public bus network. The local and regional bus service is operated through the Avanza network and connects Marbs to nearby towns Málaga, Puerto Banús, San Pedro de Alcántara and Estepona - which is great if you and the girls fancy a change of scenery.
Another option is Uber and other private hire app services which are available in Marbella, which can be cheaper than a taxi, but prices do tend to increase during the busy summer months.
Unfortunately there is no railway station at all in Marbella. If you're flying into Málaga Airport from the UK, then you'll most likely have to pick between a coach, a taxi or we can arrange a pre-booked transfer. The benefit to the pre-booked transfers is you don't have to worry about splitting the cost on the day, they're ready on your arrival so no waiting around and they know exactly where you need to go.
The miles of white sandy beaches are sure to inspire some gorgeous sunset walks, we would highlight that you could start on the beach near Río Real and walk for as long as your legs will allow, however most hen groups will stay in the Puerto Banús area, therefore you could opt for the waterfront promenade there, or alternatively the Marbella seafront promenade. With the gentle sound of waves and a pink and orange sky as your backdrop, what’s not to like? Even better still, you and the gang can drop in on a variety of bars during your walk.
Tips and ideas
- Do some celeb spotting in Puerto Banús, which is a popular hangout for the rich and famous. The marina has some incredible superyachts, so look out and choose which you would opt for if you won the lottery.
- Tap water is treated and perfectly safe to drink, however some prefer bottled water due to the taste.
- Marbella's Old Town has many historic churches and remnants of the old Moorish walls
- Marbs is framed by the Sierra Blanca mountain range
- There are several Michelin Starred restaurants in the city, along with some amazing beach clubs and bars
Marbella or Puerto Banús?
It's common to hear the two names mixed together and used as one, but they are actually different areas on your map. the Marbella Old Town is famous for the tapas bars, great for some lunch with the group, not to mention some shops you might want to explore during the day. You will also experience the traditional Andalusion atmosphere, ideal if you want to have a proper tourist experience as well as the wild part of the holiday.
Puerto Banús is actually 7km to the West, hence why people are often caught out and need an Uber or taxi to get over there. Here you'll find the famous marina that many hen groups want to visit, plus those luxury yachts where you might find a secret billionaire relaxing (or future husband, who knows). You've also got the beach clubs and some of the most well known nightlife venues, so your group will probably spend a fair portion of time in Puerto Banús.
Golden Mile
This is a stretch of scenic road as it goes along the coastline for around 4.5 miles, between the Western side of Marbella and through to Puerto Banús. The name is actually more of a nickname, not an official map name, but it became famous in the 50's and 60's as Marbella became a popular place for the wealthy and has since gained a reputation as a hub for luxurious entertainment and hospitality.
You will find Michelin starred restaurants offering unbelievable cuisine (if that fits the groups budget), expensive villas which you can stay in (albeit we also have hostels and apartments to match all budgets), tennis clubs, spas and the Puente Romano resort.
If your group want to try a champagne lunch or maybe relax and drink in a beach club then you may spend a decent amount of time here. This also tends to be the spot for a bottomless brunch or two.
Promenade
Around 7km long, Paseo Marítimo goes from Marbella Told Town and then towards Puerto Banús. You'll commonly spot plenty of joggers and cyclists here in the morning, while if you don't want to take a taxi and fancy walking to venues then you'll go along here. There are ice cream kiosks, ideal when the sun is beating down, plus a number of nice cafes. You've also got sandy beaches, which means beach bars serving tasty cocktails.
The promenade has palm trees going along, adding to that holiday-feel. The beachfront restaurants, known here as Chiringuitos, are ideal for seafood fans, however even if you don't love seafood, you'll love it here as you can relax in the sun with some sangria or a tasty cocktail. Some of them have sunbeds which you can hire out.
If you've been drinking during the night and you want to ease back into the day in a relaxing spot, the Promenade is the place to be.
Nightlife
Grab those sky high heels and your most extravagant outfits ladies, because when it comes to going out in Marbella, you can never be too over the top. This is the location to air all of those outfits you might not dare to wear back in the UK, giving you all the perfect opportunity to really glam up.
Marbella is famed for its glitzy image and for being a millionaires playground. When it comes to the nightlife on offer this is no exception, when the yachts are moored and the sun goes down, everyone comes out to play, with popping Champagne corks aplenty - having a great time is expected here.
Many of the exclusive venues are located in Puerto Banús, the famous celebrity hangout or on the Golden Mile where, needless to say, there is no shortage of bars, restaurants and nightclubs to keep you and your hens dancing into the early hours.
Timing
Opening times are a little bit different to back in the UK. You can expect many of the restaurants to be full between 8-10pm, the main time people will be out eating dinner, while you might want to line up dinner for this time. We can book this in for you and make sure your activities fit in beforehand and you have time to head back and get changed beforehand.
You have beach bars open during the day, but many of the cocktail bars don't open until the early evening. The nightclubs won't start getting busy until midnight onwards, so plenty of time for a bar crawl.
Beach Clubs vs Nightclubs
The beachclubs are more where you'd want to hang out during the day. They're open and lively through the early afternoon, while you can get sunbeds here as DJ's play throughout the day. This is an ideal spot to enjoy a few cocktails and slowly build into the day. You will find a few offering evening parties, but it's not always guaranteed.
The major nightclubs are where you'll want to spend your actual evenings, albeit it's important to remember some of these have a dress code, you can't remain in your daytime clothing like the beach clubs, which have a much more relaxed dress code.
Dress Code
I mentioned this previously above, but it warrants its own section. Some venues are a bit strict on trainers, this is changing with time, but you're better off bringing some decent shoes to avoid getting turned away at the doors of a nightclub.
You can wear your bikini or swimming attire at the beach clubs, but they obviously aren't allowed at nightclubs and at some evening venues, from restaurants to bars. If you have an idea around fancy dress, just be aware this has to be a daytime thing, we have a number of activities available which are fine with fancy dress, but in the evening you'll want to switch to a smart-casual dress code.
Booking Ahead
As you can imagine, we can help out here, as we can reserve your group and arrange for drink packages, as well as queue jumps. Many of the beach clubs are sold out from a week or two beforehand, so you don't want to leave this to the last minute to arrange.
Restaurants normally won't allow you to book for over 6 people, while they also tend to refuse big groups at the door due to capacity and fears about groups getting too rowdy. Fortunately, we have pre-arranged agreements with a number of restaurants so that they'll have to let your group in.
With the nightclubs, we can arrange for your group to be on the guest list and have a queue jump, ideal as who wants to stand out for an hour. Plus we can arrange for a reserved table, so your group has a private space to retreat to, plus drinks to be on the table for your arrival, so you don't have to worry about going to the bar. The drink prices on these packages works out much cheaper than individually buying drinks on the day.
Getting Home
It's always important to have a plan for the end of the night on how you're going to get back to your room. Uber operates in Marbella, while there are also a number of local taxis dotted nearby to nightclub venues in the evening. The demand will increase quite heavily during the end of the night, which does also mean prices tend to spike as well.
You should work out a meeting point with the group in case people get lost or the group gets split up, this is always so important but people forget to do this earlier in the evening, yet wants the cocktails start, it can be so useful.
Changing Seasons
When you arrive will change your experience completely, but the most busy season for nightclub bookings is July and August, both for hen parties in Marbella and also for people on holiday. On top of this, you'll also see a big spike around Easter, as well as bank holidays, as it's an easy way for people to go abroad without using up annual leave.
If however you're going against the trend and have opted for a winter hen weekend, then just be aware that some of the beach clubs may have reduced opening days/times or even be closed.
