What to expect

These sessions are run by true gin experts who’ll help you learn all the essentials to become a true lady who knows her tonics and gins like nobody’s business. Don’t worry about this being stuffy and boring though. We know that you’re girls on a hen do, and so does your tutor. So your lesson is less lecture and more drink-lots-of-gin-and-play-fun-games. And if you happen to accidentally learn something? Well all the better.

You’ll be sampling a wide range of gins, so you really get the chance to test your palette and actually appreciate the diversity in this delicious drink.

Gin tasting is a fantastic activity for our bigger groups, the friendly social atmosphere will have everyone bonding and chatting away in no time. The gin has a way of getting everyone into the party mood making this a great activity before a big night out in any of our UK locations.

What Are Botanicals In Gin?

You will hear this term if you come along to a gin tasting session, while the main important one to know about is juniper, which is the base botanical in every single gin, providing that pine-tasting character you get in traditional gins.

Botanical basically just means it relates to plants, so other botanicals you may get in a gin class could be cardamom, coriander seeds, citrus peel (such as lime), angelica root, liquorice root or orris root. Which ones you choose to include will be down to you, they will provide guidance on making some recipes up, but if you don't like certain ingredients like liquorice, then you can always leave that one out or potentially swap it for another, but our experts will be on-hand to guide you.

Certain botanicals work really well together in combination, hence why there will be a method to the madnes.

What Is The Process Of Tasting The Gin Properly?

Again, this will all be run through with you on the day, but in case you want some early homework, the process first includes looking at the drink, to understand the differences in appearance or colour. You will then smell the gin, letting the aromas waft up. Do you smell citrus? Or maybe floral notes.
next is tasting time, the best part of it all. You'll just have a small sip initially to see what you think, but you can return back for many more. You may also find the taste develops from that first sip to later ones.

After this, you'll then add a mixer, to see how it tastes along with tonic or water. This will help to add an intersting comparison and you can find your new drink of choice.
