Hen Party Invites

Categories: Hen Party Advice

We are sure you’ve all seen the hilarious hit movie Bridesmaids? (If you haven’t you need to watch it asap!) Remember the scene when the elaborate musical box arrives complete with live butterfly and boujee gifts as an invitation to the bridal shower? Maybe slightly unachievable for most of us, we can’t all be Helen Harris III with an unlimited budget.

However, the point is that the method was impactful and set the tone for what was to unfold. The guests knew they were in for a high-end experience and you can also emulate this and use your imagination to make inviting your guests to the hen party a memorable one while establishing the vibe from the outset.

As maid of honour, you and the bride-to-be have put your heads together and decided who you would like to attend the hen party. The advance date has been set, now all you need to do is tell them the great news! Remember, every hen party is different.

Some of you may want to large it up on an Ibiza hen party with drinks galore, while others may prefer a more sedate affair, on a hen weeked in Edinburgh with sightseeing and afternoon tea. The way you choose to invite your guests should be a reflection of that and will really set the tone for one of the most important events of your lives.

So how do you get started? We have done the research for you and come up with a variety of ways to take some of the pressure away from perfecting the first step in getting the hen party shenanigans started!

Personalised card

There are many websites who offer personalised greeting cards, Moonpig and Funky Pigeon to name a couple. One of our personal favourites is a card with iconic Bridesmaids character Annie Walker on the front with her famous ‘Ready to parrrttyyyy’ slogan on the front.

You could also upload a picture of the bride-to-be in a similar pose or the add a postcard style of the proposed destination. Are you opting for somewhere hot and sunny with endless sandy beaches such as a Marbella hen do and beach bars galore? Or do you want to stay closer to home and enjoy some hedonistic fun on the south coast with a hen do in Brighton?

This is your opportunity to be as creative as you like and set the tone for the hen weekend. The great thing about creating an online invitation is that they can be sent through the post or via email. We would recommend sending through the post as it is rare to receive something favourable in the mail and shows effort has been made on your part.

Custom made tshirt

You can get t-shirts printed for the hen party with each group member's role displayed on the back. For example, mother-of-the-bride, mother-in-law, maid-of-honour, bridesmaid 1, 2 and 3 etc, with a picture of the bride-to-be or the groom on the front.

This works really well if you know in advance that all of the people can definitely attend. Getting them to RSVP by wearing the t-shirt and giving a thumbs up, would also make memorable additions to the hen party album.

In person

If you are fortunate enough to have everyone in the local vicinity, then inviting them all in person is an exciting way to announce your hen party plans and invite them. There are a few ways of doing this. Depending on your personal tastes you could book a restaurant, reserve an area in a bar or throw a party at your own house.

Getting everyone together for food or a few drinks so they are all in the party spirit and then presenting them with a written invitation, or simply announcing it with a toast would certainly cause a few happy tears!

Video message

This is an upgrade on a card and perfect for social media queens who aren't afraid of the camera. We love the idea of writing several placards and holding them in front of you while dropping each one to the floor, finally revealing the invitation on the last card. (Think the infamous scene in the movie Love Actually) or you could sing, dance or even read a homemade poem. Video is more powerful than just a normal written invitation and gives you the opportunity to be as funny or sincere as you like.

Social Media

You can set up a private invite on Facebook with the date and any other information you may have about the hen party. Photos of the bride to be can also be uploaded and even pictures of you all together for an extra emotional touch. Invitees then have the option to respond yes or no and can also write a personal message.

This is obviously dependant on whether all the members have access to Facebook, so make sure you check the age demographic of the group. You could also use this as the opportunity to start your hen party group chat on Whatsapp and kill two birds with one stone, start by inviting the attendees and job done!
